One of my major responsibilities on Horse Riding Classic was developing the story's ending. While the game is silly and fun, it was important to the team that the conclusion was fittingly humorous, but still satisfying.
The solution that I came to was to show the player's small choice throughout the game (in the form of picking a new horse) at the end to emphasize the journey over the destination. The solution also presented an opportunity to show off the comedic horse names the player created. Players received this solution extremely well.
Due to The Tail of King Boris of Oris being developed for a 3-day-long game jam, I was extremely restricted when writing the narrative. This was not just due to the time I had to figure out what the narrative would be, but also where I could insert narrative.
